B-8EIGHT, RnB Rap group

B-8Eight is a boy band consists of five members(Kim, Thujey, Ice, Cupid & Amit). The group was formed by combining two rap groups. They are known as RnB Rap group. As the group name “B-8Eight” originated according to numerology by combining the number of their names; from vocals and rap to signwriting, B-8 filled its debut album that was initially signed by 2smusic. Unfortunately it was cancelled and could not be completed. Later on, Superstar Entertainment put focus light on B-8eight and the band are in the process of re making their old album now.

Their album mainly focuses in RnB & Rap but it also includes wide varieties of other music genres such as Love songs, Rock-Rap, Club songs, Techno, etc. In their new album artist such as NSK (Nirnaya tha NSK), Indira Jocy (Top five from Nepal Tara) and Yiesann D (a very talented female RnB artist from the underground scene) has been featured.

Recently, they have released their first official music video from their album collaborating with Yiesann D called Missing you. This song is about lost love.

Celebrating 10 years of MANTRA BAND Documentray

Mantra is a Nepali Rock Band that originated from Darjeeling. The band was formed in 1999 with four members. The starting line up for the band comprised of Vaskar on vocals, Praggya on guitars, Pravash on bass and Bishal on drums. The band got its first exposure outside the hills which happened in the year of its formation at the IIT Kharagpur, Calcutta at  “Wildfire”. They kept on ‘going’ by playing at various local gigs. The year 2002 saw the band releasing its first number “Timi Bina” on a compilation album “Gorkha Rocks”. Later the same year they performed at a major concert in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh where they were joined by a new member Manish on Keyboards. In the same year, the band won the Gangtok Rock Contest, where Praggya took home the award of best lead guitarist. For about two-three years the band performed live concerts in and around Darjeeling.  In the year 2003 with eight songs Mantra released its first album titled “Mantra”. The album was distributed through Indreni Audio Cassette Center, Kathmandu. Songs like ‘Timi Bina’ ‘Ekantama’ and ‘Bir Gorkhali’ became instant hits in their hometown, Darjeeling and Sikkim. In the year 2004 Mantra immediately released their second album. This album contained more melodic folk music with the flute dominating their compositions. Bidhan, the flute and saxophone player was invited to join the band as a full time member. ‘Sanskriti’ the song from the album was nominated at the Annual Hits FM Awards as the best rock composition. After the release of two albums Mantra began to be noticed and saw them performing at live concerts to overwhelming successes at many places of  Sikkim, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Siliguri, Dooars, Calcutta, Shillong, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Bhutan. They performed star act at the prestigious Darjeeling Carnival and other engineering institutes in India. In the year 2005, Mantra won the “Rock O’ Phonix” Alcheringa at the IITG cultural festival held in Guwahati, Assam. Concerts kept rolling with many new places in Nepal too followed by gigs in Pokahara, Bharatpur, Birthamode and Dharan.

However, everything was not smooth sailing for them. In the year 2006 Bishal, the drummer had some domestic problems and hence, couldn’t commit himself full time towards the band so he was replaced by Birzoo as the fresh member of Mantra. ”Himali Nepali” their 3rd album was released under the banner of Taal Music Kathmandu. Videos of ‘Aakashaima’ and ‘Himali Nepali’ are being regularly aired on television. The song ‘Himali Nepali’ has again been nominated at the Hits FM Awards for best rock composition. Mantra then went on to perform at the highly prestigious Great Indian Rock held in New Delhi in 2006. They were selected as the best twelve bands from all over India. Mantra is classified as a progressive ‘nu-metal band’ in India with strong influences from Western bigwigs like Dream theater, Pantera,Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Metallica, Whitesnake, MrBig...the list is pretty long. The band is still playing concerts in various areas and are in the process of releasing their 4th album shortly.
